OBS was a hell lots of fun =D despite the horrible chores we had to do, the sunburn and the staying condition and home-sickness, i think overall it was awesome. Of course for those who aren't the camp-and-track kind of adventurous person will find it horrible still. OBS is totally different than Sec 2 Cohort Camp. It's alot tougher and challenging. After completing the course, then you'll feel that Sec 2 Cohort Camp is nothing, the challenges are no kick. See in Sec 2 Cohort Camp, the food are all ready for you. You don't have to move tents and when it rains or anything, you have the conference room to slee with aircon. Furthermore, there are teachers around with proper rooms. You feel homesick, you can stay inside. After finish eating, you can just wash up and sleep. You get to use sleeping bags and you dun have to keep your eyes on the things like harness and helmets stuff. You lose it, they give you warnings. On the other hand, in OBS, you have to collect your own food and cook it yourselves. Once you finish eating, gotta wash everything yourselves. Gotta move campsite every-night and they time us to pitch and pitch down the tents. 5 tents within 10 mins. You never clear time limit, gotta pitch back and pitch down the tents til u clear 10 mins. You forgot to put on the 'fly-sheet', it rains and ur tent get wet, you still have to sleep inside. No sleeping bags, sleep in the tent on the ground. You lose any equipment, you pay for it according to their prices. Day 1, 24th June 2008. We took bus to Punggol Jetty and waited for the boats. 3H and 3J were the last to go, so while waiting some of us played games, the guys went to pee -.- and some took naps. After like at least 45 min or more, our boat came. We headed to Campsite 2, divided to groups and joined the rest. I was in Da Gama. Da Gama recruits: Hazel/Charissa/YiJun/Rachel/Michelle/Jo/Ke Shin/Daryl/Chuan Hui/Hong Wan/Timothy/Sun Yu/Jonathan/Ajay/Tyson and YIYING! ahahha! to be honest, i wanted to be in Livingstone =/ Livingstone recruits: Olivia/Fang Ning/YiJie/Erina/Ryan/JunHui/Yvette/YiJing/ and somemore people (sorry i forgot who) but oh well, Da Gama rocks most at the end of the camp -Cheng-(thumbs up)!! Then they brought in the instructors. There's this 1 instructor that caught my eye the minute he walked in front of us but he went to stand in front of the other group. i was like 'ah dannggg =X' Then when they called the instructor of Da Gama, he went to stand in front of my row. i went 'ohhhhh hell yeahh!' they called his name 'JONATHAN' he has this cute dimple =) cmon everybody says he's cute. aahhh =D ahah! he seems to be the most fun instructor to me so obviously i was glad to have him to be my instructor. We surrendered our belongings and he briefed us about the equipments in the store. First day was quite boring actually, cos we didnt do anything except briefing, briefing and more briefing -.- We pitched the tent and did some 'trust-jump' thing. The one u fall back and the rest of the group holding a mat and they catch u with it. We learned some belaying and climbing thing. And ended the day with cooking our own dinner and wash up. So dinner was; rice, 1 can of sardines, 1 can of soup. pathetic i tell u -.- The whole camp, i shared tent with Charissa and YiJun. Day 2, 25th June 2008. Campsite 2. we woke up a lil late and had difficulties dismantling the tents. So we kena lecture. Then we proceed to the high element challenge, The Flying Fox. k i think among all the roles, the ropemen is the most boring one. LOL. cos all u do is pull the rop and tap tap tap to prevent ropeburn. While flying, i screamed halfway then no voice came out -.- but it was cool =) Then after keeping the equipments and packed our bags, we headed for the Land Expedition. We saw a wild boar crossing the road and a hen with chicks following it. Classic =D The bags were like super heavy, i can bet it weighed more than 6 kg. Tyson and I were the navigator. We werent lost but we had a tough time finding the clues -.- we asked for 2 clues, each cost us 2 bottles of water (not to give him, but to drink), so we drank 4 bottles -.- our next campsite was at Jetty Batu Kekek. we reached there and had to test our life-vests by dipping into the sea water at the jetty. we had to lock arms, Yijun was on my left i think and Jonathan was on my right. When everybody stood up, the other side stood up faster so it was unbalance. I couldn't get up, so Jonathan couldn't get up, followed by Chuan Hui the other side of Jonathan couldn't get up also. lol. super fun man. Then we headed to the Quary (sp??) We jumped in 1 by 1. our left arm suppose to hold on to the life-vest. The other arm go under the left arm and pinch the nose. When i jumping, then i realise my right arm wasn't under my left arm. i was like 'oohh shiittttt!! hyaaaa' then splash -.- super retarded. Then when everybody jumped inside we all locked arms and he told some stupid random shit lah -.- LOL said some dead people improperly burried underneath and when the time reaches 6.20 pm, the hands will grab our legs. lol. After that, we pitched the tents and had some problem with Hillary. let's not bring that up. We cooked our dinner, briefing about the next Sea Expedition and went to sleep. Day 3, 26th June 2008. Jetty- Batu Kekek. We woke up late. LOL. oh well =)) we learnt how to kayak and wad to do when we capsized. I kayak-ed with Ajay and Chuan Hui. The weather was super hot, i never zip my track pants so i have this stupid patch of sunburn only the unzipped part. LOL. Everytime there's break, we'll attach our tri-kayaks to Michelle's one. So Chuan Hui, Ajay, Michelle, Daryl, somebody else and I will share food =D haha! Daryl will help me peel oranges. LOL! he has the funniest laughter i've ever heard. contagious man! i'll laugh when he laugh. HAHAH! super funny! LOL! Da Gama people agree! hahah! played chasing with parvesh. Lol. he kept splashing water, so i splashed back. then immediately paddled forward. Then suddenly 'Helloo! i'mm baaacckkk!' Chuan Hui was like 'OH SHIT! FULL SPEED AHEADD!!' hahhaha! super fun! once we reached back Campsite 2, we had to carry the boats and washed the sand off. The instructor rinsed all of us and we formed human chains to start moving our bags. Bridget and I got to get on the boat =D hahha! some incident happened, so we had to do the Jetty Jump the following day. We packed the store and ate our lunch. set the tents and start cooking. Hairi and Parvesh came over and helped us finish the food. After finish eating, Hairi saw a wild boar. Only Hairi and I saw at first. Then we went near the forest and were thinking wad to do if the wild boar runs out. Then our dearest friend, Parvesh thought of a solution which is to run in circle cos the wild boar will fall down and run back to the forest for it has short legs -.- true actually but when it runs out people will be panicking then who the heck will remember to run in circle -.- LOL! not a bad thinking though. Then the wild boar went to the beach. Just when Charissa screamed, Parvesh ran away. So other people thought Parvesh ran and screamed at the same time. They were like 'PARVESH! U LOSER SIA!' Parvesh went 'EH NOT ME LAH' in his high-pitch voice. LOL! We had to hang our ponchos and rinse the ground sheets. loosen up the equipments then suddenly we realised we lost ALOT of things. in total we had to pay $200 plus plus. Till we start finding 1 by 1. We went to write our journals and then went to sleep. Day 4, 27th June 2008. Campsite 2. SIGH last day of camp. Had Jetty Jump in the morning. some screamed, i shouted 'I SURVIVED OBS! WHOOO!' then mostly clearing the store and pack up. and basically that's all. We had a group talk, and then we received our photos and man, i look so spastic! LOL! oh well, thats why it's called 'Fun-Photo' after all. lol! I then realised how much we've been through as a group. I recalled wad we were like when we first arrived at the campsite and wad we're leaving as from OBS. The instructor asked each of us our most memorable part of the course. Some said Flying Fox, some said Kayaking, I said 'ever participating in the course, the whole thing.'. We head down and joined the other groups and bought the shirts. Played 'Pepsi Cola' for a while, super fun. Cleared the place and were the last one to leave. I think OBS taught us not only to be mentally and physically stronger, but also to open our mind as there are more things in life uncovered. OBS showed us our strengths and weaknesses, taught us valuable lessons and moral educations =)) lemme share some inspirational stories from our Instructor. -A girl once asked her mother. Girl: Mommy, why is life so tough? You solved a problem, a new 1 will appear. Mom: Sweetie, can u help mommy take a carrot, an egg and a coffee bean please? Girl: Mommy, i dun wan to learn anymore recipe. i wan to noe the ans. Mom: Put them inside the cooking pot and let em boil. -After a While- Girl: Mommy, i just wan to noe the ans. Mom:*took out the cover* you see the carrot? is it soft? Girl: Yes. Mom: now u see the egg? is it still hard? Girl: Yes. Mom: now the coffee bean? can u smell? Girl: Yes. Mommy, wad're you trying to say?? Mom: You see, dear, People are like Carrot, Egg and coffee bean. Some may appear hard at first, but once you put them in a hard situation they become soft like the carrot. Some maybe fragile at first, but become more solid like the egg. And Some are like the coffee bean, you put them in and they will influence the rest of the smell. So my dear, which one are you? i forgot the other 2. shit shit. i'll post when i remember. I'll definitely miss my instructor, Jonathan. and DAGAMA =) TKS DA GAMA 2008 -CHENG- *thumbs up* =)) he invited me for the 21 days course. anybody interested?????????? It takes a minute to find a person, a day to know them, a month to love them and an entire life to forget them.-told by Jonathan (instructor of DA GAMA) =D
